It is one of those points of interest, that not many visitors of Dakar would visit… I even met one local, living in Dakar for like ten years, never being up there. π Of course I “dragged” him with me to visit π
It is one of those spots, where it is hard to know what to expect, where one is not sure whether it is worth paying the entrance fee.
But it is also one of those spots where simplicity on the outside is hiding many interesting sights and facts once entering, not to mention the breathtaking moment when steping outside onto the tiny balcony on the top of the lighthouse, stepping basicaly “into the sky”…. and gazing towards northwest part of Dakar …. incroyable!
And if you ever get lost during the night on the sea and you see a light that blinks every 5 seconds, you shall know you are approaching Dakar π
It is pretty much always worth climbing up on higher ground and changing perspective. If nothing else you confront the fear of heights. And get some excercise.
But seriously thinking about those guys, sometimes with families maning the outposts, sometimes far out on the sea, on an island, away from people, civilization and help in case of emergency. It takes special people to do that!
